My tips on how to handle stress!

💙HI EVERYONE💙

I wanted to share some of my personal ways on how I handle stress during difficult times. As you may or may not know, I have gone through many difficult and challenging times in my life and I have a lot of experience when life gets tough. We all know this has been a stressful year so far with everything going on. Self care is CRUCIAL right now, because if you don't take care of yourself, how are you going to take care of everything else in your life. Let’s start by blocking the rest of the world out for a moment. It's time to focus on yourself for a few hours.

Ready? Let's begin!

Detox✋ – Whenever I notice that I am feeling stressed, depressed or anxious, I like to start things off by detoxing. This isn't the normal "diet" type of detoxing. This detox is focused on detoxing all the negativity that can creep into your life without you even noticing it. I take a moment to monitor my phone use and avoid negative news, television programs and even certain people who can be frustrating or draining (socially and online). I then look around to see if I can find anything else putting off negative energy. I cut off all drama and start the process of replacing it with positive things.

Meditation and Yoga🧘‍♀️ – After the initial detox, I put on some calming music and work to get in a meditative state. 🎶 I turn off my phone and TV, and silence anything that will cause any distractions. Once all is calm and silent, I sit down and focus only on my breathing and listening to my heartbeat💓. I let the negative thoughts flow through me briefly and then focus on letting them dissipate. I start thinking of positive things to replace those negative thoughts with. Once I feel more relaxed and sense my peace of mind, I start doing some light stretches, before proceeding to my Yoga poses. It’s good to pace yourself and not to rush yourself in any way, because that can bring forth anxiety or stress again. So keep things at a relaxing pace for you.

Spirituality😇 - Those that know me, know that although I have studied many religions, I don't subscribe to any specific religion 100%. Instead I feel that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and I find myself to be very spiritual. I enjoy daily devotionals in the morning as well as prayer circles. 🙏 As the Bible says, “If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit”.🙌 Spirituality is about your own faith and your own journey, not about others trying to get you to see theirs. Make sure you take some time everyday to reconnect with your faith and what makes you feel whole.

Decluttering🗑 – A 2010 study published in the scientific journal "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin" stated that women who described their living spaces as “cluttered” were more likely to be depressed and fatigued than women who described their homes as “restful” and “restorative.” The researchers also found that women with cluttered homes expressed higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol. During this time I have been decluttering my home office and all the rooms of my home and making it a better environment for me to live in.

Find A Way To Laugh Or Smile😂😁 – Watching funny and uplifting shows and movies, comedies or ones that have happy endings, are really great for lifting your mood.📺 I also love going on my social media and reading and replying to all the sweet comments from all of you. 🤳 You always know how to brighten my day and make me feel loved. If you are feeling down, reach out to a friend and ask them to tell you a funny story or a joke.

Writing Down Problems✍ – When your head is full of thoughts that are causing you stress, writing them all down can really help. It is often called a "Brain Dump" where you get nagging thoughts and feelings out of your mind and onto paper. I find that this helps me a lot. I not only write them down, but also do my best to come up with answers and solutions too. 📃 If you cannot come up with an answer or solution, write it down and set it aside for a day, and come back to it later. You may not have a solution in the moment, but at least you can rest your brain and refocus on it again with fresh eyes.

Winding Down🌃 – When you've been stressed, your whole body can tense up. I like to relax by taking a nice bath and using a bath bomb or Epsom salt. You can also light a scented candles or put on some relaxing music. 🛀 I normally take this time to rid myself of any remaining negative thoughts or energy. When it’s time for bed, I cuddle up with one of my furbabies and either read a book or watch positive movies and shows, before going to sleep.
