Dr. Donavan here, with some more great ways to help you minimize your chances of becoming sick. You can use these tips and tricks to help sick-proof your home and your life as well!
Hygiene.🧼🚿 We all know the importance this pandemic has taught us about hygiene and the importance of washing our hands. But it’s not only important to have good hygiene to protect yourself from the Coronavirus, but it's also good at helping keep you from other ailments as well, such as cold and flu. Germs and bacteria are everywhere. They can be on anything you can possibly think of. Good hygiene is the best line of defense in helping us avoid germs and bacteria that make us sick.
From my last blog I know that you remember that washing your hands with antibacterial soap and water for 20 seconds is an important ritual to keep yourself safe from germs.🙌 Did you know that showers work better than baths to cleanse from head to toe, especially after you have been outside for long amounts of time. Lastly, don't forget about cleaning your mouth by brushing your teeth and mouthwashing.
*Darcy's bonus tip* Make the most out of your mouthwash when it's halfway empty, by adding some hydrogen peroxide to it. You can fill it back up this way and give you more for your money and also make your teeth whiter. WOW! 🤩 Be sure to shake it well after pouring it in.
Supplements.💊 Anyone that knows me, knows how much I talk about Colloidal Silver. Colloidal Silver is often claimed as a cure-all. Benefits include: Boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and has been shown to be able to help in treating cancer. Other supplements I like to keep at hand are: Elderberry gummies or Sambucol, a Probiotic, Vitamin D and Zinc, which can help in boosting your immune system.
Even though Vitamin C can shorten the life of a cold, help in maintaining a good cholesterol level and keep blood sugar levels under control, it must be used in moderation for those with diabeties as an excess can cause kidney stones and/or other problems.
Exercising.🏃♂️🏃♀️ Having a regular exercise routine can help increase the number of illness-thwarting immune cells that your body circulates. Whether your exercise is walking/jogging, swimming, hiking, workout exercises, weightlifting, or yoga; it's important to take a little time each day to do some form of exercise routine. Doing just 30 minutes of walking everyday can increase your cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost your muscle power and endurance.
Food.🍽 Food in itself is also it's own kind of medicine. Always make sure to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables. The vitamins and minerals in these foods can have many benefits in strengthening your immune system. Another super powerfood is Garlic. I like to crush up a clove of raw garlic every morning and take it with a glass of Orange Juice. Garlic can not only combat sickness (including the common cold), but also can help reduce blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels. It may help in detoxifying heavy metals in the body and even possibly help you live longer.
Comfort.💆♀️ Stress can oftentimes lower your immune response. Believe it or not, practicing stress-reducing activities can boost immunity as well. Studies have shown that even a simple massage can increase the levels of cold-and-flu-stopping cells. Some good stress-reducing activities you can do are reading books, taking relaxing baths, and doing arts and crafts such as painting and knitting. Other things that I enjoy are: spending time with your pets, listening to music, aromatherapy, and even watching a good movie or show.
